DELAYED UPREGULATION OF SKELETAL MUSCLE NA+-K+-ATPASE CONTENT FOLLOWING A SINGLE SESSION OF ECCENTRIC EXERCISE
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Since eccentric exercise can impair excitation-contraction coupling in muscle, possibly resulting in transmembrane leakage of Na+-K+, we have reasoned that increase in Na+-K+-ATPase content may also occur in the remodelling process. To investigate this hypothesis, 7 untrained females (age = 20.5 ± 0.1 yrs, ± SE) performed a single session of eccentric cycle exercise (90 min at a power output similar to that attained at VO2 max during concentric exercise). The Na+-K+-ATPase pump content using [3H] ouabain binding was measured on tissue samples (vastus lateralis) obtained prior to the exercise (PRE) and at 2 (POST-2), 7(POST-7) and 14(POST-14) days of recovery and compared to frequency-dependent force recovery, determined by transcutaneous electrical stimulation. Force at both 10 Hz and 100 Hz was depressed (P < 0.05) at POST-0 and POST-2 before recovery by POST-7. Na+-K+-ATPase content was unaltered from PRE at POST-2 AND POST-7 and increased (P < 0.05) by 14.6% at POST-14. *Significantly different from PRE (P < 0.05) +Significantly different from POST-7 (P < 0.05). These results demonstrate eccentric exercise can elevate muscle Na+-K+-ATPase content but not until well after force has fully recovered. Supported by NSERC (Canada)Table

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
