Malgre une litterature abondante sur les effets de la separation parentale sur les enfants, peu d'etudes s'interessent au processus de coping mis en place par l'enfant pour y faire face. Afin d'explorer un modele conceptuel de l'adaptation des enfants qui rende compte de leur processus de coping en situation de stress familiaux et de degager les mecanismes par lesquels ce processus est lie a leur adaptation, 85 enfants et leurs parents, provenant de familles intactes ou separees ont repondu a des questionnaires mesurant les conflits conjugaux, le processus de coping et l'adaptation de l'enfant. Les analyses acheminatoires effectuees demontrent que l'evaluation du degre de menace que genere lasituation influence le choix des strategies d'accommodation et revelent que les strategies actives influencent l'efficacite percue du coping. Les resultats indiquent aussi que le processus de coping des enfants est partiellement lie a leur adaptation. Cependant, les strategies d'accommodation par evitement et par recherche de soutien ont des impacts differents sur l'adaptation des enfants. Cette etude met egalement en evidence l'impact direct des conflits conjugaux sur l'adaptation des enfants.
