Abstract

La rhinite est une affection frequente, documentee chez pres de 40% de la population. La rhinite allergique en particulier est frequente dans la population et certaines etudes semblent indiquer une augmentation de son incidence. Depuis les dernieres recommandations canadiennes en 1994, nous avons fait des progres considerables dans la comprehension des processus inflammatoires impliques dans la presentation clinique de la rhinite. De plus, de nouvelles modalites therapeutiques sont maintenant disponibles. Il est aussi etabli que la rhinite peut etre plus qu'un evenement localise et representer en fait un processus affectant toutes les voies respiratoires. C'est pour toutes ces raisons que nous avons reuni des representants des specialites connexes que sont l'oto-rhino-laryngologie, l'immunologie clinique et allergologie, la pneumologie, la medecine de famille et des chercheurs fondamentalistes pour discuter de leurs perspectives respectives et de developper un consensus canadien sur l'etiologie et le traitement de la rhinite. Ce papier presente donc une mise-a-jour sur l'atteinte globale des voies respiratoires et offre un guide concis sur les modalites actuelles utilisees dans le traitement de l'inflammation nasale.
