Figure, figuralité, dé-figuration, sur-figuration : aspects de la traduction poétique — Le relief figural d'un poème s'avère souvent modifié, ou arasé, dans l'opération traduisante, par une insuffisante perception — en amont du traduire — de « l'espace intérieur du langage » qu'est la figure, ainsi que des mécanismes figuratifs. L'idée pernicieuse et tenace de la figure comme fleur de rhétorique, élément décoratif, sous-tend fréquemment aussi le rhétorique, élément décoratif, sous-tend fréquemment aussi le comportement traductif face à un texte de poésie ; c'est par là-même toucher du doigt un autre a priori tout aussi néfaste : l'appartenance de la figure à la forme du poème, envisagée comme dissociable de son sens. On examine ici la fortune de quatre figures-clés — comparaison, métaphore, hypallage, répétition — dans diverses traductions de poésie, à la lumière du principe général de concordance énoncé par Meschonnic pour l'établissement d'un rapport poétique entre un texte et sa traduction. La démétaphorisation à laquelle procède telle ou telle traduction supprime ou anémie des éléments essentiels du processus de signifiance. À l'inverse de l'ablation ou de la destruction de figures, c'est un ajout de figures, voire une surcharge figurale, qu'on rencontre, à d'autres moments, dans la traduction poétique. Animé par le désir d'embellir, de poétiser l'original, le traducteur plaque des fioritures sur le texte source : la rhétorisation est une des pratiques les plus courantes de la « domination esthétisante ». Rester au plus près du régime figural d'un poème, c'est respecter l'unité organique de ce poème, et préserver son intégrale textualité.
