海水中の微量元素を定量するため,イミノ二酢酸基を有するキレート樹脂(Muromac A-1)を詰めたミニカラムを用いて微量元素を濃縮した.濃縮後,カラムに酢酸アンモニウム緩衝液(pH 5.5)と精製水を流し,分析の妨害となるCa,Mgを除去した.その後,分析対象元素を2 mol l-1の硝酸で溶離した.測定は誘導結合プラズマ(ICP)質量分析法及びICP発光分光分析法により行った.本法により26元素が定量可能となった.測定に要した試料は200 mlである.Al,V,Thの回収率は70% 以下であったが,それ以外のほとんどの元素では90% 以上であった.分析の信頼性を標準物質NASS-4(NRC Canada)を用いて確認した結果,本法の値は保証値とよく一致していた.本法により海洋深層水(高知県室戸市)及び表層海水の分析を行った.海洋深層水中の微量元素濃度は,表層水に比べて,栄養塩型では高く,捕獲型では低くなり,海洋学的な知見と一致していた.また,希土類元素濃度を規格化し,そのパターンを調べたところ,深層水ではCe(III) が酸化されてCe(IV) となり,粒子態として除去されている現象を裏付ける結果が認められた.
