Abstract
On a souvent dénoncé la carence d'études strictement démographiques au Canada français. Or, les populations canadiennes-françaises constituent un véritable laboratoire qui place les chercheurs dans une situation presqu'expérimentale. À cet effet, insistons sur la qualité de notre état civil grâce auquel des analyses de démographie historique peuvent être achevées avec une rare précision. De plus, l'union de cette discipline à la génétique des populations peut donner lieu à des travaux extrêmement féconds. Depuis quelques années, la génétique démographique a connu un essor rapide au Canada français. Le présent travail se propose de présenter, dans une première étape, les taux de fécondité des couples fertiles de la population de l'Isle-aux-Coudres depuis la colonisation jusqu'à 1960. L'évaluation des taux de fécondité a été réalisée par la compilation des durées d'intervalles intergénésiques des cinq premiers rangs de naissance, ce qui correspond approximativement à la fécondité des couples dont la femme est âgée de vingt à trente ans. En second lieu, nous avons estimé la fécondabilité des femmes par le calcul de l'intervalle protogénésique. Finalement, nous soulignerons la possibilité d'incidence de la consanguinité sur la fécondité.
