Parent Involvement AS Education: Activist Research in Multilingual and Multicultural Urban Schools
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Abstract This paper discusses an intergenerational literacy initiative for linguistically diverse parents/caregivers and their children who attend two primaryjunior and one senior-middle school in an urban setting in Ontario. We begin by outlining the conceptual bases for this activist research initiative, identifying a participatory, situated approach, where participants are themselves actors in the processes leading to educational change, as a preferred response to unprecedented multilingual and multicultural diversity in systems of formal schooling. After establishing the broad pedagogic framework for the interventionist component of the project by critically examining the notion of parent involvement in education, we provide a project overview, including objectives, program components, and pedagogical approaches. We then outline some findings from the project, elucidating the perspectives of participating parents, teachers, and students. In conclusion, we critically assess such community-referenced initiatives' potential for creating social, cultural, and economic opportunities for non-mainstream students in light of current definitions of cultural capital.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
