COMME TOUTE HISTOIRE, CELLE DU CANADA EST COMPOSITE, frag mentee. Celle de sa culture est une suite de conflits, de refus mais aussi de metissages et d'echanges. On ne cesse de recommencer a redecouvrir les cultures autochtones, a tenter de les reconstituer. Certaines ne sont malheureusement que des inscriptions, souvent affadies, a peine lisibles, d'une histoire sans suite. Les traces et les vestiges d'autres sont recueillis tout autant par ceux dont elles constituent le patrimoine que par ceux qui sen sont nourris comme spec tateurs transformes en temoins. Certes, l'heritage appartient a ceux qui en sont issus mais egalement a ceux qui, venus dailleurs, tentent de preserver des lectures d'un reel dissipe et oblitere par le temps. Le Canada a connu ensuite les deux cultures de conquete, celle de la France et celle de la Grande-Bretagne. Nouveaux venus sur cette terre, ces pays se sont battus pour l'investir et ont decouvert, de generation en gene ration, que les cultures ont souvent la capacite de survivre aux conquetes voire a la maitrise du territoire oil elles sont etablies.
