Selon les estimations, des problèmes de santé sexuelle font suite au traitement du cancer dans 40 à 100 % des cas, tous cancers confondus, et presque la moitié des survivants du cancer font état de problèmes en lien avec le fonctionnement sexuel. Alors qu’un grand nombre d’effets secondaires du traitement du cancer disparaissent progressivement durant la première ou la deuxième année, beaucoup de problèmes de santé sexuelle ne le font pas, demeurant sévères et constants et pouvant même empirer au fil du temps et causer une immense détresse. Quoique les problèmes de santé sexuelle soient monnaie courante, ils ne sont pas abordés assez souvent dans les milieux de l’oncologie. Il existe divers obstacles à la prise en charge des préoccupations en matière de santé sexuelle. Dans cette présentation, nous abordons ces défis et proposons certaines démarches que les infirmières pourraient utiliser afin d’améliorer les soins de santé sexuelle, notamment les modèles BATHE et PLISSIT. Des exemples de cas sont fournis afin d’éclairer les modèles.
