Énoncé du problème : Les outils de l’informatique médicale et de la recherche documentaire sont devenus essentiels au médecin praticien, chercheur, enseignant ou gestionnaire, et les facultés de médecine doivent veiller à leur acquisition. But : S’assurer que les étudiants en médecine du premier cycle aient une formation de base en informatique, intègrent ce savoir-faire durant leurs études et puissent maintenir à jour leurs compétences en recherche documentaire. Type d’intervention : Mise en place et évaluation d’un nouveau programme pédagogique. Sujets et milieu : 389 étudiants de l’année préparatoire et des deux premières années du programme d’études médicales de l’Université de Montréal en 1999-2000. Interventions : Introduction à Medline dès l’année préparatoire, cours et démonstrations (6 h) et ateliers facultatifs (débutant : 3 h ; avancé : 3 h) en informatique en première année, rappel sur Internet en deuxième année. Programme facultatif (InfoRepère) de formation continue en recherche documentaire par une liste de diffusion électronique et sur un site Web. Intégration de travaux faisant appel à l’informatique ou à la recherche documentaire dans certains cours des années pré-cliniques. Résultats : Le cours d’introduction à l’informatique médicale a été jugé quelque peu éloigné du domaine médical, et l’atelier facultatif avancé a été peu fréquenté. Cependant, les autres cours et l’atelier débutant ont été jugés utiles dans une proportion variant entre 48 % et 91 %. InfoRepère a attiré 162 abonnés et son site Web a reçu 1 425 visiteurs. Douze travaux d’intégration ont été réalisés par les étudiants des années précliniques en 1999-2000. Conclusion : Le programme a en général été bien accueilli et se poursuivra maintenant à l’externat.
