難燃性の有機化合物を,迅速に完全燃焼する接触気相酸化法を考案し,これを燃焼管燃焼法に適用し,燃焼成分の検出量の精度を検討した.接触気相酸化法は,燃焼管の酸化部の容積を従来法の約5倍に拡大し,これに酸化触媒機能を併用した燃焼方式で,燃焼管の有効加熱部に容積約20 mLのるつぼを装着し,るつぼの中央には試料カプセルをるつぼに誘導する導入管を固定した.また,導入管の外側とるつぼの内壁との空隙は白金気筒で満たした.試料の燃焼は,酸化部を酸素ガスで満たし,導入管より試料カプセルを挿入して瞬間燃焼する.ここで生成した不完全燃焼成分は,白金気筒内を逆流しながら燃焼を完結する.燃焼管燃焼法に接触気相酸化法を適用することにより,供試試料の範囲内では,昜燃性試料と難燃性試料の区別がなくなり,有機化合物中の炭素,水素,窒素及び硫黄の同時定量が精度よく測定が可能になり,チオ尿素の炭素の検出量の精度は約10倍向上した.
