Abstract
AACC’s 2006 Annual Meeting marks the 30th anniversary of the group that became the Division of Animal Clinical Chemistry (DACC). It was during the 28th Annual AACC Meeting in 1976 that President Royden N. Rand invited laboratory animal clinical chemists in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries and veterinary laboratories to find a home within AACC. Significant interest among animal clinical chemists had already been demonstrated during the 1975 Toronto AACC/CSCC Meeting, at a well-attended informal session organized by Dr. Joseph F. Dooley, Director, Pfizer Clinical Laboratory, with the help of Dr. Carl Moyer, Warner Lambert/Parke-Davis, and Mr. John Moran, Upjohn Company. Dr. Rand’s subsequent invitation was in response to a letter from Dr. Dooley asking the AACC Board of Directors to consider the formation of an ad hoc Committee on animal clinical chemistry. The purpose of the committee was to identify and meet the needs of those within the AACC who were practicing animal clinical chemistry in chemical and drug safety testing and in related fields.
