Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Abstract Brazil is the most Catholic country in the world, but it is far from being religiously homogenous. The Church of Liberation (a branch of liberation theology) has participated greatly in the development of Brazilian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and in certain forms of activism, particularly during the 1990s. Today, both the role of the Church of Liberation and the Brazilian religious context have changed. Nevertheless, religion appears to be still present among development actors. This article attempts to portray and analyse the way religious beliefs present themselves today in the conceptions, the practices and the internal relations of Brazilian NGOs based on a case study of a religious NGO inspired by liberation theology. The study presents the difficulties of religious NGOs when acting within a diverse Brazilian religious landscape and facing the professionalisation of civil society.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
