Effects of heat treatments and equal channel angular extrusion on the mechanical properties of an industrial Al-4%Cu alloy

Abstract
Nous avons procede a l'extrusion dans des canaux coudes a aires egales (ECAE) d'un alliage industriel Al-4%Cu dans une filiere dont les canaux forment un angle 90° a la temperature ordinaire. L'influence des traitements thermiques precedant l'extrusion et par suite le niveau de durete qui en resulte ont ete etudies. Apres trempe de 550°C qui amene a un etat sous-vieilli, l'alliage a ete fissure des le premier passage a cause de sa durete elevee et sa faible ductilite. Les valeurs de durete sont plus elevees aux voisinages des fissures indiquant l'accumulation d'une plus grande quantite de deformation. Apres un recuit d'une heure a 350°C, c'est-a-dire a l'etat survieilli, l'alliage a ete extrude avec succes. L'influence de l'ECAE avec et sans rotation de 90° de l'echantillon entre deux passages successifs, sur les proprietes mecaniques a ete etudiee: La limite d'elasticite augmente avec le nombre de passages. En supposant que le durcissement est de l'ecrouissage pur, une estimation de la densite de dislocations apres ECAE donne une valeur de 6.10 10 cm -2 apres le premier passage. Une conclusion importante est que le niveau de resistance obtenu par la deformation plastique severe est comparable au pic de vieillissement mais avec une perte de ductilite.
