Les metteurs en scène, réalisateurs chacun à leur façon de la "partition" qu'est le texte de théâtre, occupent, avec leur équipe de praticiens, une place capitale dans la genèse à jamais parachevée des oeuvres théâtrales. Dans cette perspective, et en illustration des riches virtualités du théâtre de Michel Tremblay et ses prolongations variées en représentation, cet article propose une analyse de deux mises en scène majeures d' Albertine, en cinq temps , celle de la création par André Brassard en 1984 et celle de Martine Beaulne, réalisée à Montréal une dizaine d'années plus tard en 1995. Par leurs différences très marquées, ces deux mises en scène permettent d'apprécier les prégnances multiples dont les pièces de Michel Tremblay sont porteuses et la manière fascinante dont leurs potentialités s'éveillent au contact des différences de génération, d'époque, de tempérament et d'expérience des divers artistes, artisans du théâtre et spectateurs.
