Abstract
La sociologie comme ses méthodologies se sont développées dans la foulée des sociétés nationales. Le XIXe siècle a érigé ces dernières comme seules sociétés globales légitimes, et la sociologie les a construites comme le modèle de la société. L’auteur considère l’opposition entre les méthodes qualitatives et les méthodes quantitatives sous cet éclairage tout en élargissant le débat aux philosophes sociaux anti-empiriques. Il interroge également l’opposition entre société globale et société locale commune à la pensée postmoderne et l’équivalence faite par certains courants de pensée entre le niveau d’analyse et l’orientation politique des chercheurs. L’auteur termine en proposant quelques orientations méthodologiques.
