Este trabajo continua nuestra linea de investigacion sobre “la representacion de la mujer en el cine canadiense contemporaneo” que comenzamos desde 1996, cuando analizabamos la representacion de la mujer indigena en el cine de Canada. Esta primera aproximacion al tema nos permitio vislumbrar la inmensa profusion del cine documental realizado por mujeres cineastas en Canada, gracias al respaldo y estimulo brindado por el Studio D del National Film Board of Canada creado en 1975. El uso de la entrevista a profundidad, de archivos fotograficos y filmicos, y de la tecnica de la voz en primera persona de las narradoras-protagonistas-heroinas de estos documentales son los elementos comunes que unen a los documentales analizados. A traves de estos documentales podemos conocer, de primera fuente, como asumen las mujeres canadienses (cineastas y entrevistadas en su estrecha colaboracion cinematografica) el rol de la mujer en los procesos de socializacion, de transmision de valores, y sobretodo en la asimilacion de su experiencia real y vivida en una sociedad multicultural y multietnica como lo es hoy en dia Canada. Esta investigacion nos reconfirma que el estudio del cine canadiense, especialmente el realizado por mujeres cineastas, es fuente valiosa para el conocimiento de la cultura y la sociedad canadiense contemporanea, dada su diversidad cultural, social y etnica.
