Form Supplied in: according to literature procedure.1 Solubility: soluble in toluene.2 Analysis of Reagent Purity: 1H NMR.1 Preparative Methods: can be prepared by reaction of 2-phenylindenyllithium with ZrCl4.1 Handling, Storage, and Precautions: store in a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed container. Handle and store under an inert atmosphere of nitrogen or argon. Generally used within an inert atmosphere dry box, contact with oxygen is strictly avoided. May cause mild to severe irritation of the eyes, skin, nose, mucous membrane, or respiratory tract. Avoid ingestion, inhalation, or direct contact with skin or clothing. The toxicological effects of this reagent have not been thoroughly tested, unknown hazards may be present. Disposal: dispose off according to local, state, provincial, and federal guidelines relating to zirconium compounds and organometallic reagents. Small spills can be mixed with vermiculite, sodium carbonate, or other suitable non-combustible adsorbent and swept up. The compound is most likely incompatible with oxidizing agents and active metals.
