A Comissao- autor deste livro foi criada, entre Dezembro de 1991 e Marco de 1992, sob a egide da Fundacao Rockefeller, reunindo participantes de Organizacoes Internacionais, de Organismos Bilaterais de Desenvolvimento e Ministerios dos Negocios Estrangeiros de varios paises, bem como especialistas internacionais. Presidida por Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo, a Comissao integrou 18 membros e 2 conselheiros, suportada num secretariado de 15 elementos.Este livro relatorio, quase ignorado entre nos, apesar da sua qualidade interrogativa e da criatividade das suas propostas, tem por nome Cuidar o Futuro. E surpreendente a sua analise nua e crua que, ferindo a normalidade consentida de um mundo em transicao global, reconstitui no leitor a emocao do possivel. Este reencantamento, esta paixao de estar vivo e de aprender a viver juntos, enfrentando os numeros da nossa miseria (PNUD, 2000) ou a linguagem estetica da fotografia de Sebastiao Salgado, presente nos deslocados- emigrantes- excluidos de milhoes de pessoas.
