Abstract
Traduire les onomatopées représente un véritable défi pour le traducteur d’un texte littéraire, notamment poétique. Comment, en effet, restituer dans un texte traduit des sons codifiés qui appartiennent spécifiquement au « corps charnel » d’une autre langue ? Une équivalence est-elle possible ? À partir des options de traduction effectuées par les premiers traducteurs français de la Lénore de Bürger au XIXe siècle, on tentera de mettre au jour quelques stratégies de « reproduction en français » des onomatopées de ce célèbre poème allemand, et l’on se demandera dans quelle mesure elles ont pu trouver un écho dans l’écriture de poètes français de l’époque romantique alors en quête de renouveau.
