Abstract
According to the initial plan at the time of opening, with the Hanbittap as the center, only international exhibition quarter in the east side would be removed after closing of exposition. And exhibition halls in the permanent exhibition quarter would be used as the educational venue for national science throughout the operation after the maintenance. In every cases of exposition in the past time most facilities were removed after the closing, main exhibition hall as the permanent facilities attempted to use was a fresh point of view. According to this, the competent, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Resources (now the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) handed the management authority of the permanent exhibition quarter to Expia World Co. which is the subsidiary of Daekyo Group. Now at the east area, Daejeon Convention Center, TJB Daejeon Broadcasting Co., Daejeon MBC and the apartment buildings with stores are located, so the trace of exposition was disappeared. According to the organization committee, after the total of fourteen million visitors had joined the exhibition, management were getting hard on with the financial crisis of 1997 because of reduced visitors. Finally Expia World returned the management authority of Expo Science Park, so the ownership of it was transferred to the Daejeon City. After that, the metropolitan city of Daejeon established local corporation Expo Science Park to manage it. As compared with the central government, financial state is not good relatively, Daejeon City received order to clear the financial problem from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in 2008. The deficit reached to the amount of 5 billion won per year. But through the procedure of practical use named as Expo Recreation Business, various alternatives are to be seeking now. Daejeon City is feeling deeply chagrined with the fate of Expo Science Park. Eventually on July in 2012, Lotte Group submitted the business plan contained with shopping center from the Theme Park Lotte World to the Daejeon City and got the approval of business. Tentatively named “Daejeon Lotte World”, this project would be begun in 2013, be opened in 2016 and now is going on. This new business plan have contents the most removal of present exposition facilities and enter into the redevelopment. But the MOTIE did not permit this plan with regard to the Act on the Support of Daedeok Exclusive Zone for Research Development, so the Lotte World is now finding another building site. Recently on July, 2013 memorandum of agreement contained to build Korea Basic Science Institute and the attached heavy ion accelerator which are maim project was signed between the Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning and Daejeon City.
