Abstract
Résumé La gestion de la mobilité internationale est devenue une dimension capitale de la stratégie des grandes firmes «mondialisées». Alors que s’est épanouie dans l’entreprise l’idée d’un individu cosmopolite, relié à lui-même, clair dans ses définitions (il gère sa vie, assume ses choix, forge ses propres lois morales qu’il transcrit dans des chartes éthiques, etc.), l’expérience vécue et répétée de la mobilité internationale fait que l’individu peut souvent être en opposition avec ses identifications passées. Nul ne demeure longtemps, en réalité, en situation de mobilité internationale sans courir le risque d’une dissociation forte entre, d’une part, l’univers d’origine, l’univers communautaire et l’univers résidentiel et, d’autre part, l’univers de l’entreprise. Cet article s’inscrit dans la perspective d’une longue recherche centrée sur les processus de construction de l’identité de cadres d’une grande entreprise pétrolière française. Là où le chercheur en sciences sociales s’attendait à trouver une élite mondiale «homogène», des cadres internationaux formant une même «internationale» des cadres, le caractère hétérogène des stratégies de l’identité des cadres internationaux apporte un démenti au mythe de la grande entreprise comme espace d’assimilation irréversible de ses membres. À l’heure de la mondialisation, les identités culturelles et l’ethnicité peuvent ainsi devenir des ressources disponibles pour l’action pour ceux que l’on nomme les nouveaux managers «planétaires».
