“Landscape Ecology in the Mediterranean: inside and outside approaches”

Abstract
Ce congres concerne la section europeenne de l’International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE). Remarquablement organise dans un hotel de la capitale de l’Algarve, il a reuni plus de 190 delegues (dont une dizaine de Francais), provenant de vingt-huit pays d’Europe, auxquels se sont joints quelques chercheurs venus de pays plus lointains (Etats-Unis, Canada, Australie, Nouvelle-Zelande, Chine, Russie, Turquie). Au total, quatre-vingt-dix-huit communications orales et quatrevingt-six posters, repartis par theme, ont ete presentes (cf. Tableau). Les deux conferences plenieres introductives ont porte, l’une, sur l’impact de l’homme sur la variation des diversites biologiques le long des echelles d’espace et de temps, la seconde, sur l’unite et la singularite des paysages culturels en Mediterranee. Puis douze symposiums organises en sessions paralleles furent consacres a une serie de themes allant, d’amont en aval, des approches theoriques de l’ecologie des paysages et de son histoire a des considerations plus pratiques telles que les methodes de surveillance de la biodiversite ou de diagnostic de la dynamique des paysages. Un net accent a ete mis sur l’integration, a l’echelle des paysages, des indicateurs economiques et environnementaux, tout comme s’est manifeste un souci d’equilibre entre les aspects naturels et culturels des paysages tels qu’ils se sont dessines au cours de l’histoire. Les composantes culturelle et esthetique ont en effet ete explicitement considerees dans plusieurs interventions, tout comme la necessite de prendre en compte les aspirations des populations locales dans la gestion des paysages.
