Abstract
La autotraducción es un fenómeno intercultural cuyo estudio exige ir más allá de la crítica e historia literarias tradicionales, pensadas sobre todo para el análisis de corpus monolingües. Desde el doble enfoque sociológico al que invita el estudio de la «galaxia» de las lenguas (De Swaan, Calvet) y de la competición literaria internacional (Casanova), se puede vislumbrar que los casos más conocidos y estudiados no representan todo el fenómeno sino tan solo una categoría en particular, la de las transferencias «horizontales» entre lenguas de cultura con amplia difusión. Así, se olvida sin embargo que en muchos otros casos la autotraducción puede terminar siendo un verdadero dilema socio-cultural, además de un ejercicio de equilibrio interlingüístico para el escritor individual.
