Ce texte se divise en deux parties. Il présente d’abord dans ses grandes lignes un projet de recherche en cours visant à répertorier et à étudier les personnages de traducteurs et d’interprètes dans la littérature québécoise depuis 1960. La seconde partie est consacrée au romanLe désert mauvede Nicole Brossard. La présence croissante des traducteurs fictifs dans de nombreux corpus littéraires n’a pas manqué, ces dernières années, d’attirer l’attention de traductologues tels Dirk Delabastita et Rainier Grutman, Lieven D’Hulst et Sherry Simon, pour ne nommer que ceux-là. Un travail de dépouillement en cours permettra de dégager les traits par lesquels les traducteurs fictifs de la littérature québécoise s’apparentent à l’archétype du traducteur (solitaire, austère, invisible, puriste de la langue, etc.). L’étude des données recueillies permettra également d’être attentif à l’émergence, le cas échéant, d’un « traducteur nouveau ». À cet égard, la place de la traductrice et de la traduction dansLe désert mauvede Nicole Brossard est examinée afin de mettre en lumière le rôle important qu’a joué cette oeuvre dans la redéfinition du paradigme de la traduction dans les lettres québécoises.
