Abstract
Plutôt qu’un discours « savant » dans le sillage de l’épistémologie historienne, ce texte est un compte rendu d’une expérience in vivo, un exemple vivant de la difficulté d’écrire une histoire tellement proche que ses principaux acteurs sont encore vivants. Il s’agit donc du récit d’une expérience groupale et des réflexions qu’elle aura suscitées tant chez l’auteur que chez les participants lorsqu’il a répondu à la demande du secrétaire scientifique de la Société psychanalytique de Montréal de présenter, le 13 septembre 2001, aux collègues de la Société, les textes par lui rédigés sur l’histoire de la psychanalyse au Canada pour le Dictionnaire international de la psychanalyse. Ecrit, dans l’après-coup, à partir de ses propres notes, le compte rendu de cette rencontre aura d’abord subi les déformations du souvenir avant celles d’une première écriture puis d’une réécriture délibérément condensée ainsi que de l’usage des procédés d’écriture requis pour l’intelligibilité du propos. De sorte que le texte qui en est issu a acquis un statut romanesque (fiction porteuse de vérité) dont l’auteur seul peut revendiquer la paternité.
