Cet article porte sur les représentations de l'oeuvre dramatique de Michel Tremblay proposées dans deux traductions anglaises effectuées à vingt-cinq ans d'intervalle, soitLes Belles Soeurs, produite en 1973 à Toronto dans une version anglaise de John Van Burek et Bill Glassco, etFor The Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, présentée en 1998 au Centaur Theatre dans une traduction de Linda Gaboriau. La première pièce fut écrite par un jeune auteur peu connu qui venait de révolutionner l'écriture dramatique québécoise en faisant du joual la langue de la scène, à une époque où la traduction du théâtre québécois répondait aux besoins d'une dramaturgie canadienne en émergence. La seconde est la plus récente oeuvre d'un auteur célèbre sur la scène internationale et la version anglaise de la pièce s'inscrit au sein d'un répertoire dramatique canadien bien constitué où la traduction n'occupe plus la même fonction. Il s'agit plutôt ici de célébrer un auteur devenu canonique et de prendre part à son succès.
