Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The purpose of this study is to examine the possible contributing factors associated with the emergence andgrowth of Chinese own brands in the grocery sector. This sector represents one of the most rapidly growingmarket segments in the country. The main method adopted in this qualitative study was in-depth interviews witha panel of sixteen Chinese retail experts using Shanghai, China as the geographic focus. Shanghai is appropriatebecause it leads China as a trend-setting location due to its economic activity with the West. A technique ofthematic analysis was employed in the analysis. Four factors associated with the emergence and growth ofChinese grocery own brands have been identified. The results from the study are intended to offer guidance forfuture studies in the area of grocery own brand research in China and to build a basis for developing own brandstrategy in the non-Western markets. The implications, limitations and directions of the study are also discussed. The study contributes to the literature for the own brand research portfolio in the emerging markets.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
