Comprendre les aspects temporels de la retraduction exige une histoire de ce phénomène. Quels sont les concepts et les paradigmes qui en divers lieux et à différents moments de l’histoire déterminent la valeur d’un texte original ou traduit ? Sous l’éclairage de l’histoire des idées, et en prenant pour exemples des œuvres de savoir, nous suggérons de situer cette interrogation autour des foyers de la novation. En revisitant quelques-unes des catégories cognitives qui servent à définir la retraduction, nous dégageons quelques axes programmatiques pour une histoire qui donnerait priorité aux perspectives de la simultanéité, en complément de l’approche diachronique prédominante.
