Resume Objectif : L’objectif principal de cette etude etait de decrire les changements apportes aux fonctions du comite de pharmacologie au cours des cinq dernieres annees. Mise en contexte : La composition et les fonctions des comites de pharmacologie ont evolue selon les besoins et la complexification de la pharmacotherapie, et la participation toujours croissante des pharmaciens dans les equipes medicales et la gestion des medicaments. La reorganisation du reseau quebecois de la sante represente un moment opportun pour reflechir a l’organisation des comites de pharmacologie. Cette etude s’est deroulee dans un centre hospitalier universitaire mere-enfant de 500 lits au Quebec. Resultats : L’examen de l’evolution de la composition et des fonctions du comite de pharmacologie dans notre centre a permis de mettre en evidence 24 changements apportes au cours des cinq dernieres annees pour l’ensemble des 11 variables precisees. Discussion : Avec la reorganisation du reseau quebecois de la sante et la fusion de nombreux etablissements de sante, les chefs de departement de pharmacie et les membres des comites de pharmacologie doivent reflechir au fonctionnement actuel de ces comites et aux ameliorations qu’ils peuvent leur apporter afin d’en assurer pleinement la mission. Conclusion : Cette etude descriptive met en evidence l’evolution du comite de pharmacologie au sein d’un etablissement de sante quebecois et a permis de mettre en evidence 24 changements apportes au cours des cinq dernieres annees pour l’ensemble des 11 variables precisees. Abstract Objective: To describe the new role of the pharmacology committee over the past five years in a 500-bed universityaffiliated mother-child hospital in Quebec. Background: The composition and functions of pharmacology committees have evolved with changing needs, the growing complexity of pharmacotherapy and the increasing involvement of pharmacists with medical teams and in drug management. With the reorganization of the health-care system in Quebec, it is appropriate to reflect on the organization of pharmacology committees. Results: An examination of the evolution of the composition and functions of our hospital’s pharmacology committee revealed 24 changes made over the past five years among the 11 variables of interest. Conclusion: With the reorganization of the health-care system in Quebec and the merger of a large number of health-care facilities, pharmacy department heads and members of pharmacology committees need to reflect on these committees’ current functioning and on the improvements that could be made to ensure that they fulfill their role. This descriptive study provides a portrait of the evolution of the pharmacology committee at a Quebec health-care facility.
