Abstract
O que significa ser musicalmente educado? O que significa ser musico? O que e amusicalidade, como a “adquirimos”, e como sabemos que ja a possuimos? Quem decide? Essas eoutras questoes sao subjacentes as nossas praticas enquanto educadores musicais. Formadas apartir de nossas experiencias socioculturais, elas desafiam nossas premissas acerca da musica eda educacao musical. Podemos aprender muito a partir do estudo de nossas proprias praticas e daspraticas dos outros, ja que elas sao socialmente construidas e fundamentadas. Ao fazermos isso,transformamos o “familiar estranho” em “estranho familiar”. Este artigo e uma sintese de algunsresultados de minhas pesquisas etnograficas em tres comunidades diferentes. Aqui, faco um relatosobre a importância da comunidade para o desenvolvimento da expertise no canto nas Ilhas Fiji, dostemas relativos a cultura nas atividades musicais inventadas no Artico canadense e da fusao deestilos e tradicoes em um workshop educacional realizado em Cuba.
