Abstract
(DIE) is a multidisciplinary research, consultancy and training institute for Ger-many’s bilateral and for multilateral development cooperation. On the basis of in-dependent research, it acts as consultant to public institutions in Germany and abroad on current issues of cooperation between developed and developing coun-tries. Through its 9-months training course, the German Development Institute pre-pares German and European university graduates for a career in the field of devel-opment policy. Stefan Gänzle is a researcher at the German Development Institute/Deutsches In-stitut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) in Bonn, Germany. Before joining DIE, he was DAAD assistant professor of Political Science and European Studies at the Univer-sity of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada.
