Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The Strait of Georgia is a partially enclosed coastal marine ecosystem on the southwest mast of mainland British Columbia, Canada, dominated by the seasonal outflow of the Fraser River. The ecosystem is stressed through highvolume shipping, reduced air-quality, and increases in sewage and other effluent. Climatic changes are also evident with warmer surface waters (up by 1 C since 1960), increased red tides and public attention heightened by the collapse of salmon stocks in the late 1990's. Little is known of how the natural physical variability regulates biological production in the Strait. Instrumented few routes now provide an opportunity to rigorously assess the interplay between bloom dynamics, river discharge and regional forcing. These ships-of-opportunity measure records of temperature, salinity, chlorophyll fluorescence, and nitrate concentration for up to 21 hours per day. Calibrated records compare well with survey data and confirm the ferry measurements are capable of resolving the plumebloom dynamic. Observations from the 2003 & 2004 ferry data have resolved complex patterns of phytoplankton biomass, of plume evolution, and of surface mixed layer temperature at seasonal, weather-band and tidal scales. A seasonal correlation between regions of phytoplankton activity and the plume's position is evident. This finding is discussed along with other possible physical controls of temperature, salinity, and Chl-a concentration.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
