Abstract
O conto “Valère et le Grand Canot” de Yves Thériault é um exemplo da produção literária do gênero fantástico no Quebec. Nele, a fabulação tem no ato da nominação das pessoas, das coisas e dos lugares a fundamentação de sentidos profundos que foram explorados na tradução, a fim de transpor para a língua portuguesa uma parte dessa realidade. Efetivamente, esses referentes culturais se mostraram de grande importância na construção da narrativa. Os nomes, a toponímia, as expressões, os costumes e a oralidade foram particularmente considerados para possibilitar ao potencial leitor desse conto em língua portuguesa uma experiência com o conteúdo cultural e linguístico do Quebec. A especificidade referencial encontrada apenas nesse conto em particular, antevê um riqueza não apenas tradutória, como também crítica, que torna atraente e justifica novas pesquisas nesse campo, seja na obra de Yves Thériault, ou na descoberta de novos autores e outros gêneros literários do Quebec.
