Abstract
VINGT ANS DEJA. CEST COMME SI C ETAIT HIER. SUR LINVITATION du pionnier, du visionnaire Maurice Cagnon, un groupe de jeunes intellectuels et universitaires s'etaient reunis dans un hotel de la Nouvelle Orleans ou ils allaient poser les fondements dune association appelee a jouer un role determinant dans le rayonnement et dans Involution de la francophonie. Les premiers jalons du CIEF etaient done poses en presence de figures deja bien connues: Edouard Glissant, Marie-Claire Blais, Myrna Delson-Karan (Deleguee generale du Quebec a New York) et dautres collegues (dont Jean-Marc Gouanvic) anxieux de se donner un espace de reflexion ou ils ne sentiraient pas les pressions dune oligarchic qui imposat un certain cadre ideologique sur leur pensee et sur leur maniere originale d'interpreter des travaux litteraires. On sentait tout de suite, a Finterieur du groupe, Fardent desir de combler un vide quant a Fexpansion de la fran cophonie dans le monde universitaire et dans celui des createurs/editeurs, vide qui trouvait un echo chez Maurice Cagnon au point de fonder une association qui allait devenir tres tot un lieu de conviction intellectuelle, de solidarite professionnelle, d'instants etincelants, brillants, merveilleux. Et c est ainsi que deux ans plus tard, grace au leadership eclaire de Maurice Cagnon, le cercle s est agrandi, favorisant Feclosion d un espace de paroles a travers la francophonie mondiale.
