Le poete Eugene Guillevic considerait l’adjectif qualificatif comme « le gras du poulet » en poesie. L’adjectif qualificatif en dirait trop, il ne laisserait pas assez imaginer. Beaucoup de poetes d’aujourd’hui utilisent l’adjectif qualificatif. Sont-ils pour autant de mauvais poetes ? Etait-ce Guillevic qui avait raison ? L’adjectif qualificatif est-il un mot moins fort en poesie que le nom, par exemple, comme le suggere Yves Bonnefoy ? Est-il nuisible au poeme ? Voici des questions qui, pour qui s’interesse au langage poetique, peuvent paraitre importantes. Dans son recueil de poemes Sud Nord , compose de poemes glanes au cours de differents voyages, Thanh-Vân Ton-Thât ne rechigne pas a utiliser des adjectifs qualificatifs. Chaque poeme apparait souvent comme un tableau fugitif vole a l’instant, ecrit dans un style tres concentre tout a fait caracteristique de sa poesie – j’allais dire tres attique – que l’on trouvait deja dans Le Pays d’Avant ou New-York. Ne cherchant a rendre compte de tous les adjectifs, cet article a surtout pour objectif de se pencher sur l’etude des adjectifs de couleur dans ce recueil. On pourrait distinguer les adjectifs designant des couleurs pures des adjectifs introduisant dans la toile du poeme des nuances colorees, avant d’evoquer les couleurs metaphorisees du poeme et la place de l’adjectif.
