C’est à un vaste projet que s’est attelé A.M. pour cette thèse de doctorat : il s’agissait d’envisager les échanges entretenus entre les Francs et leurs voisins à l’époque carolingienne, en étudiant à la fois les occasions de ces échanges (ambassades, réseaux commerciaux, etc.), leurs résultats en matière de transferts économiques ou culturels, et surtout la façon dont ces relations sont décrites dans nos sources : les auteurs carolingiens se contentaient-ils de topoï pour décrire l’étranger,...
