Besoins en soins de soutien non comblés et désir de recevoir de l’aide de patients recevant de la radiothérapie : répercussions sur l’infirmière en oncologie

Les besoins en soins de soutien non comblés peuvent contribuer à la détresse psychologique et réduire la qualité de vie des patients atteints de cancer. Nous avons effectué une évaluation des besoins en soins de soutien chez les patients qui recevaient de la radiothérapie pour la planification d’un programme. Un questionnaire d’auto-évaluation des besoins en soins de soutien a été rempli par un échantillon de convenance de 115 patients les jours 5, 7 et 16 de leur radiothérapie. Les besoins physiques non comblés les plus nommés les trois fois étaient la fatigue (33–49 %), une peau sèche prurigineuse (24–37 %) et les troubles du sommeil (23–30 %). Le nombre de patients mentionnant ces besoins non comblés a considérablement augmenté au cours de l’étude. Sur le plan psychologique, l’inquiétude (34,5 %) arrivait en tête le jour 5. Le nombre de personnes exprimant de l’inquiétude n’a pas vraiment diminué avant le jour 16. Dans tous les domaines et pour tous les éléments individuels, il y avait une grande variation du pourcentage de patients qui avaient des besoins non comblés et qui ont indiqué vouloir de l’aide concernant ces mêmes besoins. Ce modèle est resté cohérent au fil du temps. Cette étude fait ressortir le besoin de se doter d’un processus défini ou intentionnel pour évaluer les besoins en soins de soutien et le désir du patient d’obtenir de l’assistance ou de l’aide pour combler ses besoins.
