Abstract
Although generally believed to result in economicgrowth and consumer satisfaction, entrepreneurial activity warrantsinvestigation from an ethical perspective.As they engage in economizing(making productive use of resources), entrepreneurs may neglect to considerecological constraints, posing significant threats to theenvironment.Cheered on by consumers hungry for more and more products,entrepreneurs open the door to increased resource usage and disposal ofnon-disposable products. Entrepreneurial activity can also lead to increased income disparity in theUnited States, where 20% of the population controls 80% of thewealth.While defenders of entrepreneurship may argue that the poordeserve their lot, it is immoral and impractical to nurture an entrepreneurialideal that broadens the chasm between rich and poor.Entrepreneurialactivity, although not inherently evil, can do much damage if met withuncritical encouragement.Equity and ecology must be considered to be atleast as important as economic goals.
