Durante el verano del 2009 se ha llevado a cabo la restauracion de dos mensulas de madera policromada que datan del siglo XV y se hallaban depositadas en el Museo Arqueologico Municipal de Lorca. Las piezas presentaban ataque de insectos xilofagos, asi como un ennegrecimiento general que impedia apreciar la calidad de su policromia. Entre otros tratamientos, se ha efectuado una desinsectacion con gases inertes y eliminado meticulosamente las capas de recubrimientos envejecidos que ocultaban los detalles de la policromia. Aprovechando la oportunidad de la restauracion se ha realizado ademas un pequeno estudio de los materiales constituyentes de la pintura, a traves del analisis de cuatro micro-muestras, mediante el cual se ha podido determinar algunos de los pigmentos utilizados y la secuencia de aplicacion de las distintas capas de pintura, claramente apreciable en las estratigrafias microscopicas. En todo momento se ha atendido al proposito de primar tratamientos conservativos y realizar procesos tan poco invasivos como fuera posible, lo que ha llevado finalmente a no realizar reintegracion ninguna, ni volumetrica ni cromatica. El resultado de esta restauracion ha sido muy satisfactorio, ya que se ha paralizado el deterioro producido por xilofagos, y se ha recuperado en buena parte la belleza de colores y motivos decorativos de la policromia.
