Abstract

The inflammatory process is usually a physiological response to injury or infection. However, this may appear exacerbated in some diseases requiring control. Promising alternative molecules are isolated from natural sources, such as Thymol, and Estragole. In this sense, the objective of this research was to assess the safety of these compounds and determine their anti-inflammatory activity. One group of mice received the compounds orally and were monitored during 30 days. Then, two group of animals received Thymol or Estragole and underwent the paw edema or air pouch assay. It was observed that the compounds do not exhibit toxicity at the doses tested and both showed significant anti-inflammatory activity, which revealed estragole in novel ways the ability to inhibit leukocyte migration. These results encourage further research of Thymol and Estragole as important molecules in situations where inflammation can cause harm to patients.
