The article represents the theory of Canadian sociologist and social psychologist D. Kirk that has become a classic for foreign researchers of adoption. It deals with the topic of adoptive parents' role adjustment to adoption. The key concept of the theory is discussed: adoptive parenthood is a special form of parenthood, as it can be characterized by incongruous role obligations. The process of adoptive parents' adjustment to this psychological inconsistency author defines as making difficult choice between two opposite kinds of roles they assume: «acknowledgement of differences» between biological and adoptive parenthood and «rejection of differences». = В статье подробно рассматривается и анализируется теория канадского социолога и социального психолога Д. Кирка, ставшая классикой для зарубежных исследователей проблемы усыновления. Теория посвящена проблеме социально-ролевой адаптации к усыновлению. Обсуждается ключевой тезис теории Кирка: родительство усыновителей - это особая форма родительства, характеризующаяся несовместимыми ролевыми требованиями. Процесс социально-ролевой адаптации усыновителей трактуется как сложный выбор между двумя противоположными стратегиями: «отрицание различий» либо «признание различий» между родительством усыновителей и биологическим родительством.
