Il est de plus en plus reconnu que l’appartenance aux coopératives peut favoriser l’autonomisation des femmes sur le plan social, politique et économique. Les coopératives ont aussi le potentiel de prendre en charge la réduction des inégalités entre femmes et hommes et de devenir, consciemment et proactivement, des agentes de transformation des rapports entre femmes et hommes en leur sein et dans leurs communautés. Cet article analyse la stratégie d’égalité entre femmes et hommes du projet COOPFORH, qui a débuté en 2009 et qui vise à ce que les 27 coopératives forestières et agroforestières appuyées, à forte dominance masculine, prennent en charge la promotion de l’égalité entre femmes et hommes. L’augmentation significative du sociétariat féminin et de la proportion des femmes parmi les administrateurs élus qui a été obtenue à ce jour montre que cette stratégie semble permettre jusqu’à présent une appropriation de la motivation et des processus dans l’optique d’une réelle prise en charge des problématiques d’égalité entre femmes et hommes.
