Einer weit verbreiteten Auffassung zufolge stehen sich in der Medizin zwei Paradigmen weithin unversohnlich gegenuber (Bensing 2000): die Welt der evidenzbasierten Medizin (positivistisch, biomedizinisch orientiert) und die Welt der patientenzentrierten Medizin (humanistisch, biopsychosozial orientiert). Diese Sicht mag als Provokation nutzlich sein, sie spart allerdings einige wesentliche Befunde der Forschung aus. Bensing selber pladiert auch fur die Uberwindung dieses Antagonismus und sieht die Schlusselrolle in den Ergebnissen der Kommunikationsforschung. Dies ist nachhaltig zu unterstutzen, und folgende Forschungssplitter seien zunachst genannt (samtlich nach Dalhousie Medical School 2004): • Nur ein Viertel der Patienten konnte ihr Eingangsstatement im Gesprach mit dem Arzt ungestort beenden. • Die erste Unterbrechung durch den Arzt findet nach 18 bis 23 Sekunden statt. • Patientenzentrierte Konsultationen waren lediglich eine Minute langer als arztzentrierte Konsultationen. • Die Therapietreue steigt durch explizites Erfragen von Patientenwissen, -uberzeugungen, -sorgen und -haltungen. • Arztinnen weisen grosere Bereitschaft zur Einbeziehung psychosozialer Fragen auf als Arzte.
