Abstract
Le terme de transition écologique est de plus en plus présent dans le discours de divers acteurs. Alors que sa définition reste souvent vague, son apparition semble plutôt due à la recherche d’un nouveau terme pour remplacer le concept galvaudé de développement durable qu’à un véritable changement politique. Dans cet article, la transition écologique est conceptualisée comme le passage d’un modèle sociétal qui priorise la croissance économique vers un modèle qui met l’accent sur la soutenabilité environnementale. Une évaluation de la contribution des gouvernements, du mouvement vert et des entreprises dans la réduction de l’impact environnemental conduit au constat qu’ils n’ont actuellement ni la capacité ni la volonté d’entamer ladite transition qui serait nécessaire afin d’éviter l’effondrement écologique. Nous développons alors, dans une approche prospective, un scénario qui envisage qu’une hausse durable du prix du pétrole aurait comme conséquence la fin involontaire du modèle de croissance. Ces évènements renforceraient la position des acteurs du changement et ouvriraient des possibilités pour transformer les institutions sociales vers une société post-croissance. Il sera enfin question du rôle et de la responsabilité des entreprises dans cette transition.
