Cet article fait le point sur l’évolution du débat linguistique entourant la présentation des Belles-Soeurs en France, en faisant l’analyse de l’interdiscours sur le joual relevé dans les dossiers de presse de 2012 et en le comparant aux propos des journalistes qui avaient vu la pièce de Tremblay à Paris en 1973. Le second volet de cette étude est une réflexion sur la pertinence du surtitrage lorsqu’il s’agit de présenter une pièce de théâtre dont la langue de départ est bien celle du public cible, mais dont la variante diatopique pose un problème de compréhension pour l’auditoire. L’analyse de l’interdiscours sur le joual révèle que le débat est empreint d’émotion et que cette composante affective, sous-jacente au discours des différents intervenants, pourrait avoir influencé les propos des journalistes de la presse écrite. L’auteure conclut qu’il serait intéressant de rendre au surtitrage intralingual ses lettres de noblesse en considérant toutes les avenues qu’il serait en mesure de créer pour la représentation théâtrale, et cela sur les plans dramaturgique, esthétique et interculturel.
