Abstract
Résumé Le marché de la distribution alimentaire en Europe connaît depuis plusieurs années une mutation liée, d’une part, à un mouvement de concentration des entreprises et, d’autre part, à la montée en puissance de nouveaux concepts de distribution comme le maxidiscompte ( hard discount ) qui impose une plus grande concurrence tant aux distributeurs qu’aux industriels. Par ailleurs, dans le monde et dans toutes les industries, des entreprises familiales doivent faire face à la concurrence féroce de grandes sociétés. Cet article présente la stratégie d’affaires et les valeurs de gestion du Groupe Colruyt, une société familiale belge dont les actions sont négociées à la bourse. Plus précisément, il montre comment cette société a su se développer et s’imposer comme l’un des plus importants distributeurs dans un marché fortement concurrentiel. En effet, le Groupe Colruyt est une entreprise représentative des enseignes qui ne bénéficient d’aucun avantage quant à la taille et qui, pourtant, résistent vaillamment à la concurrence théoriquement mieux dotée en ressources. Ce cas illustre bien le fait que, au-delà des tendances à la mondialisation et à la concentration des entreprises, certaines sociétés familiales peuvent encore résister et se développer autour d’atouts distinctifs.
