本稿では,日本人のカナダ旅行の発展に伴う日本人向け現地旅行業者の活動の展開に着目し,旅行目的地とその供給体系との関係について分析を行った.1970年代まで,日本人のカナダ旅行の供給体系はアメリカ旅行の供給体系のサブシステムだった.カナダでは主に現地の日系人が設立した旅行業者が媒介部門の役割を担い,日本人の旅行目的地においてカナダ西部と東部は,それぞれアメリカ西部と東部のそれに統合されていた.1980年代になると,東西両地域を含んだ旅行商品の大量供給や夏季以外の旅行商品の開発が行われた.また,日本人カナダ旅行者の急増に伴い,柔軟な催行体制を用いた日本系旅行業者の進出によって,アメリカ旅行の供給体系から独立したカナダ旅行の供給体系が構築された.1990年代後半の日本人カナダ旅行者数のピーク以降,日本から進出した日本系旅行業者は,季節変動に対し労働力の数量的・機能的柔軟さを高め,その存続を図っている.
