Abstract
Le territoire québécois a longtemps été un personnage à part entière de notre cinématographie de fiction. Nous constatons toutefois une diminution de l’intérêt pour la vastitude et la diversité du territoire québécois chez les cinéastes des trente-cinq dernières années. Devant ce constat, il est légitime de se demander comment cette perte de conscience territoriale affecte les représentations récentes du territoire excentré dans notre cinéma. En d’autres mots, comment les cinéastes de fiction québécois ont-ils représenté la ruralité au cours des dernières années ? Ce texte cherche à dégager le sens accordé à la ruralité par le biais du cinéma contemporain : que montre-t-on, quelle symbolique accorde-t-on à ces espaces, comment sont-ils habités ? Nous croyons que malgré la marginalisation de l’espace rural comme lieu de l’action dans l’ensemble du cinéma québécois, il se dégage chez certains cinéastes contemporains une volonté de faire parler à nouveau le territoire rural, un désir de l’investir d’un nouveau regard et de le restituer à nos histoires.Mots clés : Cinéma contemporain. cinéma québécois. territoire québécois. territoire excentré. espace rural. représentations sociales. Abstract : Quebec’s territory has long been a character in Quebec fictional cinema. Over the past 35 years, however, we can observe less interest for cinematic representations of the vast and diverse territory of Quebec. In recognizing this, we can legitimately ask how the loss of territorial consciousness affects recent representations of rural territory in Quebec’s cinema. In other terms, how have Quebec filmmakers been representing rural spaces in the past years ? This paper seeks the meaning attributed to rurality in contemporary cinema : what is shown, what symbols emerge from these spaces and how are these spaces occupied ? We believe that despite the marginalisation of rural territory as a set for Quebec cinema, there are certain contemporary filmmakers who evoke rural territory in their films, invest these spaces with a new gaze and restore their meaning through cinematographic fiction.Keywords : Contemporary cinema.
