Abstract
Objective:To explore the correlation between cognitive impairment and leukoaraiosis(LA) in old patients.Methods:According to LA performance,253 consecutive patients were divided into 2 groups:patients with leukoaraiosis(LA group=127) and patients without leukoaraiosis(control group=126).According to results of Age-related White Matter Changes Rating Scale(ARWMCRs),the LA group was further divided into mild,moderate and severe subgroups.Mini mental state examination(MMSE) and Montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA) were used to assess the cognitive function.Results:Compared with the control group,hypertension and diabetes were more common in the LA group and there was a significant difference(P0.05).MMSE and MoCA scores in the moderate and severe LA subgroups were significantly lower than those in the control group(P0.05).Meanwhile,there was a significant difference between the LA group and control group in seven cognitive domains including visual space and execution,depending on-named ability,attention,language ability,abstract ability,delayed memory ability and directional power ability(P0.05).The ARWMCRs score in the LA group was negatively correlated with the MMSE score and MoCA score.Conclusion:Leukoaraiosis is closely associated with cognitive function in old patients.
